Why We Changed
Chevron’s Delo ELC Advanced is the current generation of the extended life coolant we have supplied for years. It was reformulated around what has changed in engines: more aluminum, more heat exchangers built with controlled-atmosphere brazing, and higher operating temperatures than the previous generation of coolant was designed for.
Moving our bulk tanks to ELC Advanced means every customer drawing bulk coolant from Shoco receives the current specification by default, without having to request it.
What You Receive
Double Service Life: 1,500,000 miles or 20,000 hours in off-highway applications, and up to 32,000 hours in stationary engine service when following your OEM’s coolant maintenance recommendations. The previous product was rated for 750,000 miles or 15,000 hours.
No Extender: The previous product required a Delo FleetFix® CME addition at 500,000 miles to reach its extended service interval. ELC Advanced reaches its full-service life without an additional CME treatment.
No Supplemental Additives: As before, no SCAs are required to reach the stated service life, eliminating the cost of additives, routine SCA testing, and the labor required for both.
Built For Modern Aluminum: The formulation is compatible with CAB-brazed aluminum components and the flux brazing residue left by that process, with fast passivator properties and improved protection of aluminum at high temperature.
Better Liner Protection: ELC Advanced shows a significant improvement over the previous generation in the ASTM D7583 John Deere coolant cavitation test.
Stable pH: The inhibitor system neutralizes pH shift and eliminates nitrite depletion.
Clean Chemistry: Free of borate, silicate, phosphate, amine and 2-EHA. Contains nitrite and molybdate for cylinder liner protection. Biodegradable in its unused form.
For stationary natural gas engines, Chevron lab testing measured a 7% improvement in thermal conductivity compared with conventional silicate-containing stationary gas engine coolants, and a 10% increase at operating temperature in a 40/60 blend. This improved heat transfer can help reduce high-temperature derate events and shutdowns.
Specifications & Approvals
Meets or Exceeds: ASTM D6210, D3306, Caterpillar EC-1, Deutz DQC CB-14, TMC RP 364 and RP 351 (color).
Approved For: Cummins CES 14439, plus the phosphate-free requirement of European OEMs and the silicate-free requirement of Japanese OEMs.
Free of borate, silicate, phosphate, amine and 2-EHA; contains nitrite and molybdate. Compatible with other coolant formulations and supplemental coolant additives — Chevron recommends it not be diluted by more than 25%. Freeze protection, boil-over protection and color are unchanged.
